On June 26, 2020, the Australian Competition and Consumer Council (ACCC) announced a new mandatory safety standard for water toys.

This mandatory standard will help to better protect children who use inflatable water toys in and around the water.

Delia Rickard, vice president of the Australian Competition and Consumer Council (ACCC), said: "the updated standards are more conducive to promoting consumer protection and can remind parents and caregivers that they can only buy safety products that meet the requirements of mandatory standards."

The new standard provides a transition period of 24 months from the start. During the transition period, the supplier must meet any of the following conditions:

Safety standard 2020 for consumer goods (water toys);

* Consumer Protection Notice No. 2 of 2009 (safety standards for consumer products of floating toys and water toys).

After the transition period, suppliers must meet the requirements of safety standard 2020 for consumer goods (water toys).

Safety standard for Amazon water toys

Amazon requires to put water toys on its shelves by providing documents issued by testing laboratories or institutions to prove that the products have been tested and meet the applicable standards listed in the following table:

Water toys referred to in this policy

The water toys applicable to this mandatory standard shall have the following designs:

● can bear the weight of children under 14 years old

For children playing in shallow water

Whether it is inflated and whether it is designed to be worn or otherwise attached to the body.

Water toys include but are not limited to:

New shape inflatable water toys

* inflatable toy boats used in shallow water

● independent ring water toy - complete or partial

Mandatory standards do not apply to:

Beach ball

● surfboard

Body surfboard

● inflatable bed

Inflatable boat for deep water

Kickboard

Warning slogan requirements

Water toys must have warning contents that meet the mandatory standards. The warning content must be:

● written in English

Clear and easy to read

Clear and visible

● non erasable

The advertisement copy or picture shall not express or imply that it is safe for children to use water toys unattended.

Necessary information

Amazon may ask you to provide the following information at any time, so we recommend that you place it in a place that is easy to access:

·Asin list of water toys you want to apply for sale

·Pictures of all the toys on the water supply. The picture must contain all of the following information:

·Safety information;

·Compliance mark;

·Warning labels;

·The test report issued by the laboratory confirms that each product has been tested and meets the above regulations / standards.

Note: the test report must contain the following pictures of the tested goods: packaging, compliance mark, warning label and age classification (if applicable). The product image on the test report and the product image on the details page must be displayed as the same product.
